ST. SAVIOUR'S SCHOOL EBUTE-METTA ALUMNI

HISTORY

St. Saviour’s School was founded by the Colonial Church School Trust, established by St. Saviour’s Colonial Church Council at the inspiration of Conon R. A. Wright. The funds of the trust were provided through Frank Samuel Esq. of the United African Company Limited and by the Commercial firms established in Nigeria. The Pioneer Trustees were:

B.G Carman Esq.

J.P

W.H.F. Porter
Esq.

Sir John Veritykt

and

Rev. Canon R.A.
Wright. OBE, MA.

Opened on 23rd April, 1951 in the Railway Compound, St. Saviour’s School Ebute-Metta, popularly known as “SSSEB” cost £5,694 (Five thousand, six hundred and ninety four pounds) which was no doubt a whooping sum then. Her sister school, St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi was opened six months later on 9th of October 1951 on a lagoon site in Alexander Avenue.  That was built at an equally grand cost of £9,277 (Nine thousand, two hundred and seventy-seven pounds).

Each of the schools had four classrooms with a capacity for one hundred children. However, St. Saviour’s School Ebute-Metta opened with only thirty pupils with Mrs. Joan Myles being the Head Teacher while St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi was populated with about seven pupils.

Over the years, St. Saviour’s School Ebute-Metta extended its capacity by constructing more classrooms, a computer room, a science laboratory, a nursery school, a well-equipped library and an art room. By 2015, the Diamond Jubilee building which consists of eight classrooms, a swimming pool, the music department were added to the number of learning infrastructure available.

The nursery school section was opened in the year 1999 with 8 classrooms.  As a result, the population of pupils has continued to grow over the years, from a paltry number of thirty in 1951 to the current number of four hundred and fifty-three(453) as of January 2019 with our pupils excelling academically within and outside the country as they continue to live up to the motto of the school which is “BEING THE BEST”.

The Association

Over the years, with the numerous stories of the great achievements which have been accomplished by the pupils of St. Saviour’s School Ebute-Metta, there arose the need to build a community/network for the alumni of the school. As  result of this, the Alumni Association was established in 2015 with Mr. Adegboyega Adebajo bing the first chairman of the Alumni Association and Mr. Buni Mba, the first Alumni Administrator.

Gradually, the Association continued to grow and had its first reunion celebration in December 2017. In 2019, the executive officers were appointed to help build the Alumni Association further by introducing activities and events which would keep the Alumni together and updated with St. Saviour’s School Ebute-Metta.
